Demographic Futures
Demographic projections are becoming increasingly central to both national and global politics, driving everything from social care policy to populism.
Books on demographic themes are also capturing the public imagination. This double book event features Paul Morland’s general reader guide to demography “The Human Tide” and Eric Kaufmann’s “Whiteshift” which looks at the decline of white European majorities in North America and Europe.
The authors survey the demographic future and consider, among other things: Will the trend towards sub-replacement fertility in rich countries continue? What would be the consequences for the idea of the Asian century of a rapid decline in the population of China and India? How will people of white European background react to losing their majority status in North America and Europe?
The authors are joined for this panel discussion by Khalid Mahmood MP, journalist and novelist Lionel Shriver, and former Government Minister Lord Willetts.
