Chapter 1: The Real and Complex Number Systems - The Complex Field

Welcome to Chapter 1, Section 6: The Complex Field. In this section we construct the complex numbers from scratch, using nothing more than ordered pairs of real numbers. We will see that these ordered pairs, equipped with the right addition and multiplication rules, form a field. Along the way we will meet the imaginary unit "i", the conjugate, the absolute value, and the important Schwarz inequality.
