Not too long ago I had the chance to play a show with one of my heroes (Canadian Guitar great Roddy Ellias). I studied guitar with Roddy at Concordia University, and it was a blast to play music with him for the first time in a while.

Here's a little about Roddy:
A recipient of the "Jazz Hero" award from the Jazz Journalists of America and the Ottawa Jazz Festival Award of Distinction, Roddy is a rare talent. He has the unique ability to bring an element of spontanious construction to everything he plays. The audience witnesses something magical when they are in the presence of this master of not only Jazz, but contemperary fingerstyle and clasical guitar as well. Moreover, Ellias keeps the musicians around him on their toes, always pushing the music to new heighths.

While we rehearsed for this show Roddy gifted me a set of these Santa Cruz Parabolic Tension Strings, so today's video is not only about playing with my old mentor, but a review of these great strings as well.
