Panasonic NV-HS800 VCR + Panasonic DVD recorder (TBC), VHS capture

VHS tape capture with Panasonic NV-HS800 VCR and different Panasonic DVD recorders in pass through mode.
The picture quality on the VHS tape is not very good, it is a typical old VHS recording not a real test-tape. The first part of the video shows the picture directly from the VCR as you would see it on a tv-screen. Then it is showed how the picture quality is improved by passing the signal through a Panasonic DVD recorder, before capturing it to the computer. This stabilizes the picture and reduces jitter and noise. This stabilizing effect is called TBC (time base correction). The recorder is not being used as a recorder, it is just being used for pass-through between the VCR and the capture device. The video shows the effect of three different Panasonic DVD recorders. Not all DVD recorders can be used in this way.

Panasonic NV-HS800 video recorder + Panasonic DVD recorder pass through
1. Panasonic HS800 alone, this is a good VCR but still this old recording is shaky (white level 220)
2. Panasonic S800 + Panasonic DMR-ES10, stable picture (white level 212)
3. Panasonic HS800 + Panasonic DMR-ES15, stable picture, but better white as ES10 (white level 225, black level 0)
4. Panasonic HS800 + Panasonic DMR-EX77 stable picture (white level 214)

In other tests with lower quality recordings ES10 has been a little better in stabilizing jitter and tear than ES15, but in this test the performance is similar.

Conclusion:
All three recorders has a dramatic effect on picture stability, especially vertical lines. They all have similar effects. The white/black levels are a little different. ES15 has better white/black than the other two
