Over The Sea To Shetland | Next Stop Everywhere

After 12 1/2 hours on a lovely Northlink Ferry (seriously, it was a really nice!) we arrive in the far-flung destination that is the Shetland Islands, and wow, we are in for a treat!

Basing ourselves at Braewick Cafe & Caravan Park, we explore the stunning cliffs and coastline at Eshaness, then take in some history and learn about the daring stories and missions of the 'Shetland Bus' at the Scalloway Museum.

Ferry-hopping to the northern Shetland lsle of Unst, leads us to visit the Saxa Vord Distillery (home of Shetland Reel gin, and the most northerly distillery in the UK), Skaw Beach (the furthest north you can get by motor vehicle in the UK... spot a pattern here?), a unique Viking long-house and long-boat reconstruction, and the famous 'Bobby's Bus Shelter' - an international attraction!

Finally we stop off at Jarlshof Settlement, which shows how our neolithic cousins would have lived on Shetland over 4000 years ago - oh and we had to get there by driving right across the runway at Shetland's main international airport! (True story!)
