Our DIY Mobile NAS for Overlanding Data Backup - OpenMediaVault on Pi 4 - Everlanders see the World!

In this video, How we automatically backup and archive Video and Photos on a self-built Network Attached Storage device, all solar-powered of course.

This video isn't all I envisioned it would be, but I hope you still get some inspiration to take on a project like this.

The whole thing runs on a Raspberry Pi 4, 4GB, Installation instructions here:

Then you will need to install OpenMediaVault, Instructions here:

After you have all your drives connected and shared on the Network, I use PhotoSync to automatically back up our Photos and Videos when the phones join the network and are on the charger: https://www.photosync-app.com/home.html

After that, another utility comes in and sorts the photos and videos into year and month folders based on the shutter time the photo was taken: http://www.dropitproject.com/

Having the photos and videos backed up on the NAS is the biggest time saver, without this, we end up forgetting for weeks at a time, and then it's a huge chore. The next real time-saver is using RichCopy to backup anything that is on the laptop, to the NAS so should anything happen to that, we have a copy ready to go... Instructions here:
