Scotland. White Coomb & Grey Mare's Tail Waterfall, Southern Uplands 17th Sep 2020

A walk in the Moffat Hills in Southern Scotland. The walk starts from the parking area at the Grey Mare's Tail Waterfall and heads up the path which climbs up to the right of the Waterfall. The Grey Mare's Tail Waterfall plunges 60m ( 200ft) into the valley below and is one of the highest in the UK. After passing the waterfall the path then follows Tail Burn up to the stunning Loch Skeen. At an altitude of just over 500m Loch Skeen is the highest major Loch in Southern Scotland. The walk then heads around to the right of Loch Skeen over some boggy ground before climbing steeply up to Lochcraig Head. At 800m Lochcraig Head has superb views looking over Loch Skeen. The walk continues over Lochcraig Head and follows the path over to Firthhope Rig, before the final climb to White Coomb. From White Coomb the path descends to Rough Craigs. From Rough Craigs the path continues to Tail Burn where the burn is crossed to join back to the outward path. Distance is around 7 miles.
