VAN LIFE PLUMBING | Hot Water in a Self Build Camper | Bobil System & Coolant Heat Exchanger | Ep18

Plumbing in a van... Where to start!? This week we move onto our hot water system, we show you how we install our pipework and hot pump panel. We also show you the three ways we will be heating our water and the way our insulated tank fits into the system.

Our hot water system comprises of a 28l insulated water tank filled through a 24v solenoid valve and float valve. It has a copper coil inside fed from the cab heater matrix and engine's coolant system which can heat the water while the engine is running. We also have a Bobil Heater which cycles water to and from a heat exchanger on our diesel heater ducting to our hot water tank. It then leads to a 50 micron filter, water pump and accumulator to help regulate the flow. We then run through 12mm pipework to our hot water points which are the shower and the sink.
