On April 6, NASA’s Artemis II astronauts travelled farther into space than any humans before them, performing a rare flyby of the moon’s far side and observing a surface scarred by cosmic impacts. During the mission, the Orion spacecraft passed through a brief lunar eclipse, giving the crew a unique view of space. NASA said the Artemis II mission will conclude its lunar flyby observation period on Monday, allowing the astronauts to send their latest images back to Earth.

Launched on April 1, Artemis II is a roughly 10-day mission, marking the first crewed lunar journey since the Apollo era as it carries four astronauts on a high-speed trip around the moon and back.
