To trick Hitler into moving German divisions away from Sicily, they dressed a dead man as a military officer and attached fake invasion documents to his wrist.

The body was released near the Spanish coast with the hope the documents would eventually reach German intelligence.

Nobody knew if the plan would work.

And thousands of lives may have been saved because of it.
