Holocaust Survivor Age 13 Joined US Army - Saved 40 Lives In Korea, Denied Medal 55 Years By Hate

This is the extraordinary true story of Tibor "Teddy" Rubin, the only Holocaust survivor ever to receive the Medal of Honor. At age 13, Tibor survived the Mauthausen concentration camp where his entire family was murdered. After liberation by American soldiers in 1945, he promised to join the US Army to repay them for saving his life.

In 1950, still not an American citizen, Tibor volunteered for the Korean War. He single-handedly defended positions against overwhelming enemy forces, rescued wounded comrades under sniper fire, and saved countless lives through extraordinary courage. Captured by Chinese forces, he spent 2.5 years as a POW where he risked execution nightly by sneaking out to steal food for dying American prisoners, saving approximately 40 lives including Sergeant Leo Cormier who testified "Rubin wouldn't let me die."

Four times his fellow soldiers nominated Tibor for the Medal of Honor. Four times an antisemitic sergeant destroyed the paperwork, hoping this Jewish immigrant would die before anyone noticed his heroism. On September 23, 2005, President George W. Bush finally awarded Tibor the Medal of Honor - 55 years overdue - making him the only Holocaust survivor to receive America's highest military decoration.
