On Day 5 of our adventures in New Zealand, we had an entire day to explore ROTORUA and all that The Sulfur City has to offer! We went to the AGRODOME FARM SHOW, relaxed at the POLYNESIAN SPA, and enjoyed a cultural performance and delicious HANGI dinner at the MITAI MAORI VILLAGE. It was seriously an action packed day!


I am not a big fan of farm tours, but the Agrodome was truly an enjoyable experience for the whole family. The first half of the tour included a farm show where we were introduced to 19 different breeds of sheep and then witnessed a live sheep shearing on stage. The second half of the tour took us around the farm where we stopped to feed sheep, llamas, and alpacas. We even explored a kiwifruit orchard and tasted some sweet kiwi juice and honey. It’s safe to say that my daughter wasn’t the only who had fun on this tour!


After lunch, we headed to the Polynesian Spa for some relaxation. The Spa’s geothermal hot waters are sourced from two natural springs and feed into 28 hot mineral pools. The waters are said to relieve tired muscles, aches and pains and nourish the skin. Soaking in the spring water is the perfect way to unwind after a fun filled morning.


In the evening we went to the Mitai Maori Village where we learned about Maori culture. The night started off with a captivating chant by the warriors dressed in traditional attire as the paddled down the stream in an ancient canoe (WAKA). Then we were treated to a cultural performance where we learned about Maori customs and musical instruments. The real highlight for me was definitely the beautiful POI dance and the fiery HAKA war dance. We ended the night with a hearty Hangi dinner and a night time stroll through the bushwalk where we saw glowworms in their natural habitat.


Needless to say, we were exhausted by the end of the night!
