How to Deliver Employee Feedback Effectively by Tasha Eurich

http://www.bankableleadership.com One of the scariest things I can hear from another person is "do you mind if I give you some feedback". There are two mistakes leaders make when delivering ineffective feedback. One is being overly people focused, or a left side leader. This is a person who doesn't want to hurt an employee's feelings, and as a result, gives copious amounts of positive feedback and is scared of any other type. Two is giving only "constructive feedback", which usually means here is what you did wrong. This is a leader who wants to improve things, but in providing constantly critical feedback, actually decrease performance by eroding employee confidence. The best feedback should be no fear; no fear for you in giving it, and no fear for your employee in receiving it. The model I like to use I call 2D Feedback; standing for either duplicate (stay on course) or deviate (try something different). It is future focused and behavior based.
