Baklava
This is a delightful pastry made with nuts and thin phyllo sheets. Popular in Greek, Persian, Russian and Turkish Cuisine; it is mildly sweet and filled with any type ground nut of your choice from ground almonds (Persian Cuisine topped with cashews) to combinations of nuts used by Greek cooks. The combination of spices can very greatly between cultures.
Here's the recipe ingredients:
One pack Phyllo (fillo) sheets (40 sheets) 9"x14"
2 cups ground nuts
2 heaping teaspoons cardamom
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
3 tablespoons sugar
Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes until well browned
Lemon Honey Syrup
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/2 lemon with peel
Boil 10-15 minutes add 2 tablespoons honey
Pour over baklava as soon as it comes from the oven
