Welcome home Digger Dame ! Our friend has translocated to New Hampshire and today we are going metal detecting in his backyard. We start out by hiking down the old dead road that has been abandoned for a 100 years or more. This part of NH is rugged and the erosion through the years has cut the road down to about 10 feet deep. When we get to the end of the road it is time to push forward and hit the woods, now we are going to be exploring and reading the land. We are looking for 1700s colonial homesites in what is now forest. We are finding as we go some very old and large trees uncommon for the area. Following the old stone walls we find a cellar hole ( old foundation ) and turn the metal detectors on. Some great finds between the two of us with lots of old buttons. Dame with his Garrett ATPRO finds a full set of hinges ! unreal as we never see both sides of these big iron hinges come out of the ground. DC with his Garrett ATGOLD detector finds an oxen knob, dandy button. One odd thing about this site is we keep digging hot rocks. Stones that ring up anywhere from 40 - 60 and we dig them because they sound like buttons.
