Snakes are an interesting kind of reptiles. While existing for millions of years, they're mostly thought to be dangerous scary creatures since they feed on humans and other smaller prey. For most people, the thought of being around a snake would be highly frowned upon though others love them so much that they even have them as pets! When talking about large snakes, one may not be sure whether it’s the length, size, or weight of the snake that makes it large. 10. Boa Constrictor


The boa constrictor also called the red-tailed boa or the common boa is a species of large, heavy-bodied snakes that don’t produce any venom. They have an average weight of 60 to 100 pounds and grow up to 13 feet!! Their size is claimed to be nearly equivalent to that of a 6-foot human and live up to 20 years, though some have lived up to 40 years!!! They have some of the most distinctive markings of the snake. Depending on their habitat that they try to blend into, they could be green, red, or yellow with cryptic patterns of ovals, diamonds, circles, or jagged lines.

If you’ve watched any movie on snakes, then you’ve probably seen the kind that squeezes their prey before feeding on them. The boa constrictor actually wraps their muscular bodies around their prey and squeeze it till it suffocates. The biggest of these snakes can squeeze up to 9000 pounds per pressure!!! This is like having a whole school bus on your chest. They eat nearly anything they can catch from, birds to monkeys to even wild pigs. They can open their mouths very wide to swallow their prey as a whole. At this point, I believe these cold-blooded folks can swallow a house, just kidding!

9. The Presumpscot Python


The community of Westbrook, Maine, west of Portland, claimed to have seen a large snake that they named ‘Wessie’. The snake could’ve been once an exotic pet that was let go and was just trying to survive. The snake became a legend to those who lived within and around Westbrook due to its remarkable size! Revelers of the area who saw the snake claimed it to be about 10 feet long, as big as a truck, having a head the size of a basketball!! Well, trying to imagine that description makes everything rather awkward and creepy!!! It seems it may all be exaggerated since someone could be playing a prank to keep the ‘Legend of Wessie’ alive.

8. 49-Foot Anaconda


In Jakarta Indonesia, villagers claimed to have found a large snake that’s nearly 49 feet long and weighing nearly 990 pounds!! Hundreds of people flocked the area to see the snake that was kept in a local zoo in Curugsewu Village on the main country’s island of Java. The python measured 48 feet 8 inches and weighed a total of 983 pounds feeding on a whopping four to five dogs a month! Pythons are known to be the largest snakes in the world, feeding on animals as large as sheep at a go and have been known to attack and feed on humans so they’re not the ones to mess with!`

7. Medusa

Medusa is a reticulated python that holds the official world breaking record of the world’s largest snake ever in captivity with a measurement of 25 feet 2 inches long or 7.67 meters! This measurement was recorded on October 12th, 2011. Measurements of the snake haven’t been taken since then. Her owners usually treat her to a swim in her pool and a feast on something that’s eighty to a hundred pounds. Her length is kept under wraps but in the wild, her species grow up to 10 to 20 inches long and hunt by constricting their prey in a matter of minutes! The large snake is sometimes kept in a commercial haunted house called ‘The Edge of Hell’ for views and shows.
6. Titanoboa


The Titanoboa is an ancient snake that lived approximately 16 million years ago. In Cerrejon, Northern Columbia, 60 miles from the Caribbean Coast happens to hold the world’s richest, most important fossil deposits. This area provides scientists with a unique snapshot of moments in history when dinosaurs had just disappeared and a new environment was emerging. About 58 million years ago, Cerrejon was a very swampy jungle where everything was hotter, bigger, and wetter than it is today. The river basin is believed to have held turtles with shells twice the size of a manhole and crocodiles, at least three different species of them, more than a dozen feet long!!!!
