Tanja Hester spends her days skiing, hiking, cycling and paddling. The author of Work Optional was once a freewheeling spender - but her diagnosis inspired her to start saving early and often. She has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), which causes most affected to require a wheelchair by 30. After changing her financial habits, she invested every dollar to ensure retirement before age 40.
