Coco Hames - Dead River (2017)

The Band rumbled the walls of the Silverlake Lounge and Spaceland during 2006 residencies, eventually released five albums and decamped to Nashville. At the core of the trio were the sweet/tart pipes of Lindsay “Coco” Hames, who is now stepping out with a solo album. “Coco Hames” is out via Merge Records, and while it bears hints of the Ettes’ fuzzy rock ’n’ soul, it’s mainly a reflective singer-songwriter album recalling the ’60s pop with an Americana lilt.

Hames plays guitar, piano and electric harpsichord on the album, which she co-produced with Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Benjamin Booker, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Josephine Foster). Backing her were bassist Jack Lawrence (the Raconteurs), drummer Julian Dorio (the Whigs) and guitarist Adam Meisterhans (the Weight), among others. Hames professes an early love for the music of Dusty Springfield, Patsy Cline and Bobbie Gentry, and “Coco Hames” orbits in that solar system. Here's a track from their debut album.
