Why It’s Time To Give Native Americans Their Land Back
For some reason, Oct. 12th is still Columbus Day in a lot of the United States. Fortunately, more and more cities and states are adopting that day as Indigenous Peoples Day – a nice rebuke to a day used to commemorate someone who not only didn’t “discover” the United States, but also enacted genocide against entire peoples living in the Americas. But this acknowledgement of Indigenous people, past and present, doesn’t do enough to reconcile the atrocities the United States has committed against them. What about giving them their land back? Sounds a little radical, but it’s possible – and it’s slowly happening. But what does land reclamation look like, and what does it really mean? Sana hears from several activists to inform her take on the fight to get #LandBack into Indigenous hands.
