While South Dakota may be accustomed to seeing winter storms in the month of April, a bout of severe weather impacted the area on Monday afternoon through the overnight hours as a potent system brought ample instability and moisture to the Black Hills. That instability may have contributed to local reports of golf ball sized hail, as well as a prolific lightning display visible from Rapid City. Several inches of rain fell near Rapid City, as severe thunderstorm warnings kicked off spring in an electric way.
