Chicago's Diagonal Streets

If Chicago was built on a grid system how did so many diagonal streets come about. To understand the origin on these roads we have to look back to the very beginning of Chicago. Before European settlement, Native Americans travelled the land via trails and its these trails which evolved into the diagonal streets we know today.
