Jim & Rita Smith's Solar-Powered Home Backing to Lookout Mountain

All the sustainable features of this home were implemented after the Smith's bought this home in 2012, so it does not rise to the level of many other homes featured in this year's tour. It has 10 kW of solar panels installed by Golden Solar, and it has a Carrier Hybrid Heat Pump furnace which only burns natural gas when the temperature falls below freezing. (Current models are much more efficient, able to produce heat down to below zero degrees Fahrenheit.) The home was super-insulated following a blower-door test by Bill Lucas-Brown of GB3 Energy.
