Welcome back to my May Mystery Color Challenge!
Due to some personal circumstances, I had to pause the challenge in April, but now I’m continuing again!

This video was still recorded in April, so that’s why I mention April in the video, even though it’s May now of course 😄
This only applies to numbers 16 and 17.

But we’re continuing again! 🎨✨

We’re now entering Week 3, and today we’re starting with paintings 15, 16 & 17.

This week is all about complementary colors… and yes, super exciting 😄
Because the big question is: will it turn into mud, or magic?

What are complementary colors?
Complementary colors are colors that sit opposite each other on the color wheel, like:

Red & Green
Yellow & Purple
Blue & Orange

They create strong contrast and vibrant effects, but if you overmix them, they can turn muddy.
So control and layering are key!

In this series, I’m taking it a step further:
I work with a primary color + a neighboring color, combined with its complementary color + a neighboring color.
This creates richer, more dynamic palettes while still playing with that complementary contrast.

For each painting, I use:

A 4-color combination (primary + neighbor + complementary + neighbor)
White cell activator only

I don’t use black or white as a base, only the white cell activator, which picks up and blends with the colors I start in, creating beautiful, soft transitions and cells ✨

In these first three paintings, I’ll explore how these color combinations behave within the fantasy swipe technique.

Permanent Red Violet Light by Amsterdam
Iridescent Bronze by Golden

MIXED:
1 part Paint / 2 parts Owatrol Floetrol / 2 parts Water
Golden paint: 1 part Paint / 4 parts Owatrol Floetrol / 3 parts Water

Spraypaint:
Gold Deco Spray Chrome from Action (Europe)
or Montana Gold NC Acrylic Metallic Gold

Cell activator:
1 part Titanium White
3 parts Australian Floetrol
