It was the thirteenth of July, 2008. A small and newly established United States outpost at Wanat, within the Waygal Valley of Nuristan Province, Afghanistan, defended by soldiers from both the United States' and Afghanistan' armed forces were routinely going about their watch. Little did they know they would soon find themselves in the midst of one of the most significant battles against Taliban insurgent fighters on Afghan soil. A surprise attack would soon be launched, resulting in severe U.S. losses and a great degree of scrutiny on how things could have been done differently.
