IN OUR BREAKOUT SESSIONS, WE CREATED A COLLABORATIVE POEM USING “STAGES OF LIFE” AS THE CENTRAL PROMPT. EACH PARTICIPANT CREATED A LINE, OR LINES, WHICH WERE THEN REARRANGED TOGETHER.
THESE ARE THE COLLARBORATIVE POEMS CREATED:
How old are you – Inside?
If you are a time waster, please don’t waste mine
How has your innocence changed over your lifetime?
As children we were all the same
But as adults, with so much rich experience we are all so different now
As you get older, a deeper spiritual understanding becomes necessary
When you are younger you are trying to achieve; with age you try to enjoy
I believe I past the age of consciousness in righteous rage
And found that surviving is a noble fight
So give a moment or two to the wise elders
Age brings peace
When the importance of wisdom slowly dawns,
we recognize it at some point
Are we still talking stages, what’s yours?
Does it have to be one stage?
Can I not be a child, a youth, an adult and a wise old man wrapped into one?
Can you see your horizons, or just looking at your feet?
Life is a rainbow, starting with the irresponsible youth,
arching into heavy weight of responsibility
and then
sliding back into unfettered freedom again
How many freedoms can we experience?
Youth is wasted on the young
I am still very young. No, that’s a lie
Measure what matters and then throw it away
The light is never our own
No matter what the day, I still believe in mermaids.
By Alison, Joe, Shrikant, Jason, Brian, and Lily
Winding road full of sharp turns and cliffs
Winding of the roller coaster, waiting for that drop
This is quite a journey!
Do I have time to stop and pick a flower?
Edges of cliffs; edges of my thought
The child was most content to simply run
I wonder where I am going
Losing myself in my mind
My soul hungers for answers
What will sunrise be like?
Lost in the bright sun, but found in the fog
So what’s the next page?
I’m so glad you’re with me
In the middle it seemed all paths had thorns
In the middle it seems some paths had sunshine
I keep losing myself, but always find my way back
Passion became my focusing beacon
The sunset is beautiful
And yet, I often long for the sunrise
The sun seeds inspiration
Why am I looking at the pebbles beneath my feet?
Some flowers smelled good; some flowers had thorns
Sometimes it gets too hard;
I’m crawling on the floor reaching, for something familiar in the dark
Triumphs and defeats, spirals upon spirals
Another bend, another curve, we descend
Don’t forget to breathe!
I’m so glad to have arrived
At the end, I was gnarled and worn, like fine leather
Where will I go tomorrow?
Who will I be tomorrow?
Where will I spend the night?
By Dave, Anton, Marco, Elena, and Maritza
