BAY OF SORRENTO, ITALY - OCTOBER 2015

Sorrento, Italy is often called "Land of the Sirens", and it is said that here on the furthest point of the Sorrentine Peninsula these enchanting creatures once sang sailors to their doom. The Roman name for Sorrento was Surrentum. Sorrento was the birthplace of the poet Torquato Tasso, author of the Gerusalemme Liberata. Famous people who visited it include Lord Byron, Keats, Goethe, Henrik Ibsen and Walter Scott.
