Engaging students in the feedback process in academic English classrooms with Sin Wang Chong
EAP teachers’ feedback plays a central role in improving the quality of students’ language learning. Useful feedback is not only evaluative but also actionable and manageable to the students. Drawing from assessment literature in higher education, this talk introduces eight evidence-based principles for developing students’ feedback literacy, that is; their capacity, ability and disposition to engage meaningfully with feedback. Examples of good feedback practices will also be shared. This talk closes by underscoring the need for professional development opportunities to develop not only students’ but also EAP teachers’ feedback literacy.
