Building Sputnik - Great Performance AM / SSB / CW Regenerative Receiver

I know I was saying last time that it will be one of the last videos about the receiver, but I was way too excited to share with you the PCB version of the receiver. I really wanted to make sure the PCB design is fine and has no mistakes. Good thing I made it, as I did found a little mistake that I fixed, and also made little changes to improve the DC voltage filtering.

This video is a little longer, I hope you don't mind... but I tried to cover a few parts for those making their first steps into building radios, and this way I answered a few of the questions I received by email about how I'm making different things. There are a few video requests as well, so I will be busy doing that in the next coming videos for now. I will also spend some time calculating and testing the coils for the other amateur radio bands as well.

I will point one more time that the receiver is meant to be used with a pair of regular headphones. The audio level is not as powerful for an external speaker, even though you do have a little audio going out in a speaker as well, especially when there is good propagation. But to keep the schematic simple I skipped adding an audio preamp etc. If you want to use it with an external speaker.... any powered speaker would do. The sound in the video was recorded straight from the receiver into the camera microphone input.

To make sure the receiver is stable in frequency, make sure that you use good quality mica capacitors for C10 and C11.... avoiding the ceramic capacitors, and of course a stable DC power source. The antenna I'm using is a half wave end fed wire antenna for the 40m band, with a 49:1 impedance transformer.
