Takara MP-43 Masterpiece Beast Wars Megatron Transformation Sequence

Figure Note:
Stop-Motion Transformation of Takara/Tomy MP-43 Masterpiece Beast Wars Megatron. Great representation of BW Megatron, but there are some stress marks on the pin socket on the secondary hinges on the middle flap of the backpack (the flap that folds differently than the two on either side of it sequentially). You have to articulate that end of the armature for the pins to slot properly. They’ve held up so far through a dozen or so transformations, but the marks make me nervous.

This is in my opinion the right way to transform him, regardless of what Takara’s directions say. Opening those bottom flaps give you access to the shell armatures so you can grasp them directly instead of putting undue stress on the shells getting them open.

The lift mechanism: Mine was TIGHT when I got it but it was an easy fix. To get it open the first time, you can put a wide pry tool in the gap between the lower, frighteningly delicate, part and the upper part of the slide. Twist your tool and it will pop the slide loose. Then, look at the front of the slide (from the robot’s point of view) There are a couple of burrs there - that’s what made popping it loose so hard. File those burrs down a bit and it won’t be so tight when locked down in dino mode anymore. Would still recommend using the pry tool or at the very least DO NOT just grab the legs and the torso and pull - if you yank that long swivel screw out of its socket, you’re screwed.

Speed run to Robot: 2:17
Speed run to Dino: 2:41
2x Run: 3:05
End credits: 3:28

Production Note:
Most won’t notice or read this, but I had a bit of fun with the dino’s eyes. They flick towards the camera on the rotation and they roll up in his head just before transformation start.

Viewing Note:
If you want to follow along, I recommend skipping to the speed run and using the Chrome plugin called "Frame by Frame for YouTube". It turns your , and . keyboard keys into single-frame movement keys. Every step of the transformation is documented in the frames of the video, in what I consider to be the best sequence. With minimal rubbing and minimal parts-parking.
