Watercolor Resist Technique | Mixed Media Tutorial | Reneabouquets Butterflies, Chipboard, Pearls

Creating a watercolor resist for the background of your next mixed media project is so easy! In this tutorial, I show you how to create a watercolor resist on canvas using one art medium, modeling paste, and a stencil.

Keep in mind that not all modeling pastes are the same! The Prima Marketing Finnabair Modeling Paste has no grit or texture sand added in. This means it dries smooth and virtually pore free, which is what creates the watercolor resist. So if you try this technique out, be sure to use a non-textured modeling paste, like the one from Prima Marketing!

I also guide you through my watercolor process, as well as how I create my signature floating chipboard frame with paper flowers. Plus, this project is a guest design for @ReneaBouquets, so of course the real star of this art piece are the Reneabouquets butterflies, chipboard, lace, pearls and glitter glass! But don’t worry–I show you how I add all of these elements as well, taking you from start to finish!
