Why Big Business Needs to Embrace Ubuntu | Tumi Dlamini | TEDxJohannesburgSalon

Tumi Dlamini centres her TEDxJohannesburg talk around the persistent issue of child starvation, and the role that individuals and big businesses must play in addressing this problem. She advocates for a paradigm shift in corporate governance, emphasising Ubuntu, shared values, and a sense of responsibility for societal well-being. Dlamini highlights her experiences during COVID-19, where businesses played a significant role in humanitarian efforts. The core idea is that effective leadership within businesses is crucial for social transformation, and combining the principles of Ubuntu with business strategies can be the key to addressing and resolving issues like food insecurity. Tumi Dlamini, a corporate lawyer and advisor to the African Peer Review Mechanism, advances corporate governance reforms in Africa. She led the creation of African Principles and Guidelines on Corporate Governance, emphasising Ubuntu values and ethics. Tumi champions ethical business practices and excels in forming global partnerships. She founded OGAC and supports education for underprivileged South Africans. Tumi leads the bid for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in South Africa. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
