Why a Day-2 scan is done
1. Check ovarian reserve
Doctors count small follicles (called antral follicles) in the ovaries to estimate egg supply.
2. Look for ovarian cysts
Any cysts left from the previous cycle can be detected.
3. Measure uterine lining (endometrium)
On day-2 it should be thin; if it’s thick, it may indicate hormonal imbalance.
4. Before fertility treatments
Clinics do it before starting treatments like In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) or Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) to make sure the ovaries are ready for stimulation.
