Philosophy in a Time of Coronavirus: Lockdown, Liberty, and the Common Good

Lockdown measures implemented to slow the spread of Covid-19 have severely restricted individual liberties. When is it ok for government to restrict individuals liberties for the common good? In this video, Dr Hannah Carnegy talks through some philosophical approaches to this question in relation to the current pandemic, and considers how these approaches might help us to think through difficult cases, such as the right to protest during lockdown.

Dr Hannah Carnegy is a social, political, and moral philosopher, and an incoming permanent faculty member at the Department of Philosophy at the University of York.
