New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Reverend Al Sharpton took a knee for 9:29 minutes on the anniversary of George Floyd's death during an event in New York Tuesday.

Calls for the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act get to be signed into law dominated speeches by activists and officials during the event.

Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man died after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee on Floyd’s neck as he pleaded for air for several minutes.

Floyd’s death sparked worldwide protests against anti-Black racism and calls for police reform in the U.S.

Chauvin was convicted of murder and manslaughter in Floyd's death.
