Winter Bushcraft Shelter Build - Overnight Camping - Freezing Cold (-10 degrees Celsius)
Winter Bushcraft Shelter Build - Overnight Camping - Freezing Cold (-10 degrees Celsius). Building a shelter between 2 trees using dead wood, branches, and frozen leaves on day one, building a raised bed, and finishing the main part of my shelter on day two. No talking, only peaceful nature sounds. If you want to find out more about all of these and the story behind this video, please read on.
"Every child begins the world again, to some extent, and loves to stay outdoors, even in wet and cold. It plays house, as well as horse, having an instinct for it." (Henry David Thoreau) This quote is part of Chapter 1 of the book Walden. Thoreau speaks there about shelters and the way we humans relate to a home/a shelter. I recommend those few pages wholeheartedly. I don't think there was a day of my life when I did not feel like a child, at least for a few moments. Sometimes that child is playful and so joyful, sometimes she lies in the grasses of the fields and listens to the most beautiful song in the whole world being played and sung, sometimes she talks to the woods, the birds and the animals, there are also moments when that child is angry or sad. We all carry a beautiful child inside of us. No matter what life we had, or how hard things have been, are or will be, it is never too late to have a happy childhood. I will tell you a short story about a beautiful Romanian child called Grigore Lese, that lived in a faraway village called Stoiceni, near the mountains. He was born in February, it was freezing cold outside and when his mama first bathed him she put a small silver coin in the water and wished her child could sing beautiful songs. Grigore Lese is now a famous Romanian singer and flute player and he sang beautiful traditional songs all his life. When Grigore was 3 years old, during winter, and snow was 1.5 meters high, he used to go outside of the house running barefoot. He waited for the adults to dig paths in the snow, then he sneaked outside when no one was looking and started running barefoot and hid behind the big piles of snow. His mama would come out of the house looking for him. Asked his great-grandfather if he had seen the child. Then they would go looking for him, find him, and bring him back into the house. He was blue with cold, shaking. Grandpa would rub his red feet and caress him, saying kind words. The child would suddenly forget about the pain and feel so warm. Grandpa was so beautiful - long white hair and beard and a small pipe in his mouth. Those beautiful childhood memories still warm Grigore's big loving heart today. We all have such heartwarming memories that we cherish as we would a treasure. It's never too late to go running barefoot in the snow or feel like a child. In the next video I will upload on my channel, which represents another one of my 2 day trips to the woods, I'll improve this shelter and build a door for it. The weather was warmer, but I also had some snow during the night and the second day.
"It would be well perhaps if we were to spend more of our days and nights without any obstruction between us and the celestial bodies, if the poet did not speak so much from under a roof, or the saint dwell there so long. Birds do not sing in caves, nor do doves cherish their innocence in dovecots." - Henry David Thoreau
