Afghanistan crisis: Evacuations continue amid threat of Taliban

Nations including the U.K., Germany and Australia continued to evacuate people from Afghanistan on Wednesday after the Taliban captured Kabul earlier in the week.

Germany said it had evacuated 500 people as of Wednesday afternoon, as people landing at the airport shared stories of their struggles to make it out of the city amid the chaos.

One of the evacuees broke down in tears, saying “I couldn’t do anything for my family.”

Military troops from the U.K., the U.S. and Turkey have been providing security in Kabul as countries scramble to rescue those still in the country.
