Freediving Training at El Mar Diving Center

This is the same pool I leaned how to scuba dive when I was 11 at my life long friend Tonia's dad's legendary scuba shop in Mesa, Arizona. El Mar Diving Center. The year was 1982. It was a simpler time. Two 5th graders learning diving tables, Boyle's Law of Partial Pressure, what to do in the unlikely event you run out of air at 40 feet. 38 years later, Tonia and I are still friends and we still scuba dive although freediving is pretty fun too. I'm a firm believer there is simply no better tool for increasing your body's underwater physiology performance than CO2 acclimation. Heavy physical activity while holding your breath causes your organs to say "Here we go again. Oxygenated blood go to the brain." With practice your body becomes accustomed to the increased levels of CO2. Its a tough but very addictive workout. All around waterman Laird Hamilton and Gabby Reece brought this workout to the forefront. If you want to be more comfortable in the water and have the confidence that you can go past your mental limitations, practicing these methods in a safe supervised environment is the only way to go.
