Artificial reactive Skin at Ars Electronica. Here is my artificial reactive skin.

Ars Electronica Post

Here is my artificial reactive skin. I cast my calf in silicone threading conductive threads where my leg hairs are. Through pressure, touch, and capacitive touch the skin reacts with a spectrum of light sounds and vibrations. It turned out to respond very unique to each person. A subwoofer, audio amplifiers, and several vibrating devices are embedded inside the skin, triggered by pressure and touching the skin and hairs.

This was at the Ars Electronica exhibit in Linz, Austria in 2019.

I have built 5 different backup organs as an observation of our corporate health care system and my lack of health care. The organs manipulate the processes of life transforming technology into reactive interactive living organisms.
The question? The future of life, evolution, and society. I aspire to humanize technology and go beyond the utilitarian rationales of capitalist production turning technology into poetry. This hybrid human organ is playful and a metaphor for survival, identity, agency, and responsibility. A meditation on the health care crisis and a witness in the aging process.

I am interested in questions about the future of life, evolution, society, and art.

Big Thanks to Stochastic Labs In Berkeley, Ca. To support the development of this project.
