Why Did Admiral Arbuthnot Charge the Germans at Jutland? #shorts #history

No one knows exactly why Rear Admiral Robert Arbuthnot charged toward the German fleet during the Battle of Jutland in 1916. His ship, HMS Defence, exploded during the battle, killing him and everyone on board. Arbuthnot commanded a squadron of old armored cruisers whose job was to scout and watch enemy light ships. He was known for following orders very strictly instead of using personal judgment. At Jutland he likely spotted the German cruiser SMS Wiesbaden and chased it, following his standing orders. Unfortunately, this move placed his ships directly in front of powerful German battlecruisers commanded by Franz von Hipper. Within minutes, Defence was destroyed along with more than 900 sailors.
