David Hamilton

It was a true privilege to sit down and interview David Hamilton, and to share his life and story on this podcast. Over more than 40 years, David—alongside his faithful wife and family—has impacted countless lives through a, steadfast commitment to faith & loving and serving others.

Born in Northern Ireland before the onset of the Troubles, David’s early life took him from Cookstown to Rathcoole. In the midst of a complex and turbulent environment, many influences shaped the heart and mind of a young boy—ultimately leading him into involvement with a loyalist paramilitary group. That path led to repeated imprisonment and a life marked by conflict and consequence.

Yet even there, something deeper began to stir within him—a growing sense that there must be a better way.

While in prison, David encountered the story of Jesus Christ. What began as a quiet prompting in his heart became a decisive turning point. To the shock of those around him, David surrendered his life to the Lordship of Christ. What followed was not merely a change of direction, but a profound encounter with the peace and love of God—so real and transformative that it led him to leave behind his former life and walk a completely new path as a follower of Jesus.

This journey, however, was not without cost. For David, his wife, and his family, the road forward brought significant challenges. Becoming a Christian did not immediately change his external circumstances—but it radically transformed him within them. That inner transformation required courage, and at times, placed him in situations that were both difficult and dangerous.

Yet, compelled and led by the Holy Spirit, David chose to walk where many would hesitate to go.

You may call it providence, God’s provision, or the living reality of the Body of Christ—but whatever language you use, it is clear that God placed a remarkable deposit of life within David. Through his obedience to God’s prompting, that life has overflowed to touch and transform many others.

As you listen to this conversation, our hope and prayer is that you would not only hear David’s story—but encounter the same love that changed him, and recognise its gentle prompting in your own heart.

Life is not easy, and many things can entangle us. But Jesus offers a new way—a living hope, and a future reshaped by His love.
