The Necromancer's Poison
In the autumn of 1438 a simple molecatcher from Kent, Robert Goodgroom found himself caught up in a sinister plot to murder King Henry VI – a plan rife with magic, necromancy and poisonous intrigues.
Or did he?
The elaborate accusation made by Goodgroom as he turned king’s evidence to try and save himself from execution by grassing up his alleged co-conspirators is in equal measure sensational and fantastical. Whether or not it was true such allegations shed light on tavern gossip, political dissatisfaction, and medieval concepts of magic in a period of dramatic civil war.
