History of Taj Mahal -

The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 for being "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage". It is regarded by many as the best example of Mughal architecture and a symbol of India's rich history. The Taj Mahal attracts more than 6 million visitors a year and in 2007, it was declared a winner of the New 7 Wonders of the World (2000–2007) initiative.

But his favorite Begum was Mumtaz Begum. In the year 1631, Mumtaz Begum died while giving birth to her 14th child. Shah Jahan's heart was torn in pieces by the death of Mumtaz. To make the love story of himself and Mumtaz immortal, the emperor announced the construction of a grand and wonderful tomb. For its construction, more than 20 thousand Kargiros were called from all over the country and abroad. It took about 18 years to build this Taj Mahal. Which means the Taj Mahal, which was started in 1635, took till the year 1653 to complete. Earlier Mumtaz Begum's tomb was buried in a garden near the Taj Mahal. But after the construction of the Taj Mahal was completed, Mumtaz's tomb was shifted to the Taj Mahal. After the death of Shah Jahan, his shroud was also kept in the Taj Mahal with Mumtaz Begum.

In today's time, the Taj Mahal is one of the best and famous tourist places in the world. But hardly people would know that the gate of the Taj Mahal through which they enter is the back door of the tomb in Akchuli. The main gate of the Taj Mahal is on the river side. Shah Jahan said that I should be imprisoned in such a place from where I can see the Taj Mahal every moment. This decision of Shah Jahan was accepted. And there the emperor took his last breath.
