JACK Quartet: Conversation with the Artists

JACK Quartet members Christopher Otto and John Pickford Richards talk with the Music Division’s Anne McLean about the group’s digital residency at the Library and about the compositions on their concert, including a transcription of a ballade by the mediaeval composer Rodericus and two recent works by composer and multi-percussionist Tyshawn Sorey. Composer Jeffrey Mumford joins in a focus on works by Ruth Crawford Seeger and Elliott Carter, and an intriguing compositional thread connecting Elliott Carter’s String Quartet no. 3. The artists describe the impressive JACK Studio program they have created to offer composers opportunities to develop new work, and JACK Frontiers, designed to curate concerts of distinctive voices and grow a diverse and wide-reaching new music community of artists, composers and music lovers.
