Pelomyxa palustris
Pelomyxa palustris is a very large, up to 5 mm, free-living amoeba from anaerobic habitats. The video shows a part of such a large specimen, found below decaying leaves in a water-filled tree hollow. The cytoplasm is filled with numerous spherical nuclei (10 µm), numerous less spherical but often larger glycogen bodies and different types of symbiotic bacteria, together with a lot of debris like small sand particles.
