Leptomyxa
This Leptomyxa is a slowly moving naked freshwater amoeba with a long tubular body with some lobopodia at both ends extending in several directions and also with subpseudopodia. During locomotion, it is one long monopodium, up to 3 mm! The cell is covered with a layer of small xenosomes collected from the environment. Nuclei are numerous, small, spherical, 2.5-3.0 µm. The specimen was not sensitive to light. It was present in a sample from the Gooimeer, a large freshwater lake in the Netherlands, between basalt rocks in the swash zone.
