The Awesome Artifacts of Pompeii

The incredible artifacts unearthed from the buried city of Pompeii can now be enjoyed at the new Pompeii Museum - the Antiquarium - which is located within the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. The museum was opened in January of 2021. The layout of the museum follows the history of Pompeii from its foundation during the 7th century BC to the Eruption in October 79 AD.

The Museum is located in the same place as the Old “Museo Pompeiano” and can be found under the terrace of the Temple of Venus, not far from the Forum of Pompeii.

For a limited time, there is also a special exhibition on display in the Large Palaestra - "Art and Sensuality in the Houses of Pompeii". This exhibition contains 70 works, all from the storerooms of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, which convey the importance of sensual and erotic images within the houses of Pompeii.

To view these amazing frescoes, statues, plaques and other artifacts, which have survived through the centuries within their protective layers of volcanic ash, is a most humbling experience.
