Sidai’s Saga — And Her New Arrival

After a year’s absence, we were surprised to see Sidai at Ithumba on the 22nd November 2021 – and with a tiny new addition in tow! She had given birth to a little boy, who was only days old, and who we have named him Silas.

Sadly our delight quickly turned into dismay when our Keepers spotted Sidai had a very obvious arrow wound on her right rump. Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity.
