Love and Arthur Lee: Pop Culture Graveyard Ep 41 | Bryan MacLean, Johnny Echols
I hope you enjoyed this primer on Arthur Lee and Love--one of the greatest bands of all time! Click SHOW MORE below for extra Love content, including live performances and TV appearances. What's your favorite Love track? Let me know in the comments...
Here's the early line-up of Love miming to My Little Red Book on American Bandstand (1966)(I'll never understand why '60s TV shows would make a band "fake play" their instruments, if they weren't going to bother giving the singer a microphone to fake his vocals)

Love miming to Message To Pretty on American Bandstand (1966)

Here's King Pleasure and his hit song Moody's Mood For Love (1952). This is the version of the song that inspired Arthur's playful vocal delivery on The Good Humor Man He Sees Everything Like This. Can you hear the influence...?

Love (with Gary Rowles on guitar) performing the Four Sail track August, live in Copenhagen (1970)

Love (with Gary Rowles on guitar) performing the Out There track Love Is More Than Words, live in Germany (1970)

Arthur Lee's solo track Everybody's Gotta Live off his Vindicator album. In my opinion, the last truly magical Arthur Lee song:

Arthur Lee & Love (Featuring Bryan MacLean on lead vocals) performing Old Man (1978). This '78 team-up was the final time Arthur and Bryan played together, as Bryan soon left due to not being paid, but it's great to hear Bryan sing this one live.

This clip is included to illustrate exactly where Arthur's career was by 1990, guesting on a Los Angeles public-access show, and playing two songs that bookend his interview, Signed DC and a very ragged Seven & Seven Is.

Love at Glastonbury (2003). Nothing in the 1990 appearance above even hints that this level of comeback would be in the cards for Arthur, let alone that he'd ever again be capable of this kind of transcendent performance. I get choked up every time I watch this concert and the, um, love that's flowing between the audience and the stage.

Love on Later With Jools Holland (2003) while touring England.
https://youtu.be/RdPLlxoT_as
Arthur Lee and Love's domination of England continues with the FULL Forever Changes concert at Royal Festival Hall (2003)

Finally, here is the cover of Alone Again Or, by The Damned, who do a damned fine version of it!
