Ghaziabad, May 31: The main accused in the murder of 17-year-old Class 11 student Surya Chauhan was killed in a police encounter in Ghaziabad late Saturday night, according to Uttar Pradesh Police.

Police said the accused, identified as Asad, was wanted in connection with the killing of the teenager and had been absconding since the incident. Officials stated that a police team attempted to intercept him during an operation, following which he allegedly opened fire. Police retaliated, and Asad was later declared dead after being taken to a hospital.

The case had sparked widespread attention after Surya Chauhan was allegedly stabbed following an argument over watching a goat being slaughtered on Bakrid in the Khoda area of Ghaziabad. The teenager succumbed to his injuries after undergoing treatment.

Police had earlier arrested several other accused in the case and announced a reward for information leading to Asad's arrest. Officials said investigations into the case are continuing, including efforts to trace other individuals allegedly linked to the incident.

Authorities have maintained that the encounter occurred during an attempt to apprehend the accused. Further legal procedures and inquiries related to the encounter are expected to follow as per protocol.
