Living Land - Episode 09
Notwithstanding good rains in most of South Africa, certain areas remain in the grip of a devastating drought. With farms closing down and thousands of agriculture jobs lost nationwide since January 2018, drought severely impacts livelihoods, food security and the economy. Living Land travelled to farms in the Northwest Province and the northeast of Mpumulanga, both severely drought-stricken areas, to see what farmers are doing to cope with this stressful situation. By cooperating with each other these farmers have learnt that they can better mitigate the effects of drought. An extension officer and an animal scientist also give vital tips on how to survive in tough times.
